Biz Journals Columbus: “Lawyer completes sci-fi novel after deciding ‘there would never be a right time’”

Writing a science fiction novel alongside a full-time career as an attorney might seem intimidating for some, but for Bryan Prosek, he’s hoping it’s just the beginning.

Prosek, an attorney at Steptoe & Johnson, released his first science fiction adventure novel Earth United last year. He says he’s been a fan of science fiction from a young age, but could never find the time to write.

“Finally, I decided that there would never be a right time,” he said. “In what spare time I could find, I began to write.”

Completing the novel took Prosek five years, as he could only write when he was not busy with projects from his full-time job. He made sure to prioritize his legal career.

“I owe a duty to my firm to spend as much time as necessary to do the job,” Prosek said. “That job pays the bills.”
